Positive and negative effects of ethical consumption

Recently, people are getting more and more concerned about their health and the living environment. As a consequence, ethical consumption stands out as one of the hottest topics among the world. However, both positive and negative effects of the ethical consumption can be found in my home country, China,
Firstly, ethical consumption has positive effects on social development and economics in China. “they carry huge influence and have a key role to play in helping us to protect the environment” (Smithers. R & Hickman. L, 2006). Indeed, ethical consumption helps people protect the environment. For example, using once-used shopping bags does a significant negative effect on the natural environment. Hence, ethical consumption provides people a good way to protect environment by the usage of recycled papers and shopping bags. For instance, some of the big cities in China, such as Beijing and Shanghai, have the supermarkets which provide recycled shopping bags; furthermore, they also allocate reward points to the shoppers who prefer to use recycled bags. Ethical consumption also contributes a lot to human health. A women who was an online organic product seller, said in Part I that “I don’t want my kids to be exposed to chemicals” (Wei T. D, 2007). Thirdly, using more recycled packages helps save more energy and materials in the China’s society. If everyday each person can save a bag when they are shopping, that counts a lot for the whole country. As a result, the energy or the money saved per day could be used in other ways in order to help China to increase its economics. Therefore, ethical consumption has positive effects on both social developments and economics in china.
Secondly, apart from the positive effects, some negative effects can be caused by the consumption of ethical products. First of all, “price was an issue for most shoppers, with many 0people on limited budgets wanting a greener choice” (Smithers. R & Hickman. L, 2006). Price has a big effect on people’s behaviors of choosing product in China because China is still a developing country. Its economics is not stronger enough for its citizens to spend more money on higher price products.
In conclusion, both positive and negative effects can be caused by ethical consumption in China on the area of social development and economics.

I agree with you that money is a issue that most chinese people concern a lot. however, I think it might be helpful if you talk more about the moneytary problem since it has many in-depth effects in people's mind of eco-awarness and guiding people's purchising preferances.

Jackie,

I feel that you could still have added more detail, especially to the intro and the second body paragraph, to this decent rewrite. Look at house weighty the first body paragraph just looks.

In any case, thank you for your hard work this term!

If there anything the China governement can do? I believe in order for the people to be eco-friendly, the government should act 1st. And China can seriously plays an important role since she has such a huge population.
