Paragraph I: Compare and Contrast

Although emotional intelligence is required for all human beings in their daily life, it may vary among different professions of different fields. Taking athletes and doctors as examples, both of them need high emotional intelligence in their working circumstances. However, different aspects of emotional intelligence are required by athletes and doctors respectively. Being athletes requires more intrapersonal emotional intelligence than that of doctors. Firstly, self-awareness as one aspect of intrapersonal skills is highly required by athletes. In other words, athletes need to be conscious of what his/her athletic level is in order to make improvement. Secondly, athletes need more self-motivations to overcome obstacles and cope with stresses in their hard training processes. Furthermore, courage, perseverance and passion which belong to intrapersonal emotional intelligence are more needed for athletes than doctors. In contrast, doctors need more interpersonal skills than intrapersonal skills. First, due to their frequent communication with the patients, doctors have to be able to understand their patients’ feelings and manage the patients’ moods. Second, doctors need to work cooperatively with each other during a treatment or an operation which requires more interpersonal skills to success. In conclusion, to be successful in both areas, both of athletes and doctors should have high emotional intelligence though there may be different aspects of emotional intelligence required respectively.

Love that picture---and thank you very much, Jackie, for this fast post and good response to the question.

You've chosen two interesting professions to contrast. Your language is quite fluent, too. I agree that both of these professions require emotional intelligence, but I feel that perhaps, both need intrapersonal as well as interpersonal EQ. For example, I imagine that, to work on a team, an athlete needs to be able to sense what his teammates require, how they feel, what they expect. In short, a team player needs interpersonal EQ.

But your reasoning works fine in this paragraph.

I have a warm heart!

A good piece of work. I can see you are comparing two different professions in terms of emotional intelligence. Perhaps it would be better if you can include these "dorctor" and "atheletes" in the very beginning of your paragraph, ie, in your topic sentence. Good reasoning.

the reasons given reflects that you really discover the special qualities needed for people doing these two jobs. quite instersting since these differences are not that easy to be elabrated in Chinese. But sometimes I fell that your conclusion of certain aspects is too sure while your paragraph does not completely cover the whole area of what you are talking about. Anyway, I think it is a good material to be expanded into an essay since you have more words to say.
And hope you get better soon. Take care^-^
